Love is in the air!
Greetings. It is I, Yardley.
Resident Elder Cat of MCAR. Watcher of Humans. Keeper of Strong Opinions.
The humans insist it is “Valentine’s Day.”
I, of course, know this sacred occasion by its true name:
Smoochy Poochy Kissy Hissy.
Here at MCAR, we are raising money for veterinary treatments, because—listen carefully, darling—your health is the most important thing. I have survived many seasons and at least three questionable humans. Trust me.
Love is not just flowers and nonsense. Love is vet care, full bowls, warm places to nap, and people who show up when it matters most.
If your heart is feeling soft (or you simply wish to remain in my good graces),
please donate and spread the word.
Do it for love.
Do it for health.
Do it for Yardley.
With affection (and a gentle hiss),
Yardley

“Santa Paws” Pet Photo Shoot & Toys for Tails Donation Drive
Saturday, December 20 • 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
Spruce Pine, NC — Mitchell County Animal Rescue (MCAR) invites the community to celebrate the holiday spirit with our beloved Santa Paws Pet Photo Shoot and Toys for Tails donation drive on Saturday, December 20th from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Bring your furry companions for a festive photo with Santa Paws—who kindly requests no hippos this year, no matter how much you or your pets might “want a hippopotamus for Christmas”! A suggested donation of $5 will get your pet’s picture with Santa, with all proceeds supporting the lifesaving work of Mitchell County Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
We are also collecting new pet toys for our Toys for Tails holiday drive. These gifts will help brighten the season for the cats and dogs spending their holidays in the shelter.

Out of an abundance of caution, due to the resurgence of Covid cases in Mitchell and the surrounding counties, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.
For more than 10 years, Wine & Whiskers has raised much needed funds to help abused, neglected and unwanted animals find the forever homes they deserve.
Last year alone, we saw more than 1,000 animals pass through our doors. That’s almost one animal for every 15 people in Mitchell County!
Wine & Whiskers has been one of our biggest yearly fundraising efforts, so please consider helping us by making a donation to help offset that loss.
Everyone in the community is invited to First Presbyterian Church in Spruce Pine to celebrate and give thanks to God for our pets. Click to see more about this event…
